Warsaw hopes the visit of the Chinese leader, who has been invited by Polish President Andrzej Duda, will help open up the vast Chinese market to Polish food and agricultural goods.
Officials also hope to encourage Chinese firms to invest in Poland. "Over a dozen international agreements will be signed in relation with the visit. They will cover lifting VAT for flight connections, mutual recognition of education diplomas and academic grades as well as a protocol on co-operation," Rafał Sobczak, the head the MFA's Press Office, told PAP.
According to information provided by the MFA, the Chinese leader's visit to Poland will also be accompanied by the signing of agreements on co-operation between space agencies and Ministries of Economy, including in the area of infrastructure logistics and industrial parks.
Rafał Sobczak stressed that Poland is an "important member of China's One Belt, One Road initiative, which consists of 70 countries from all over the world". The agreement memorandum between the governments of Poland and China regarding mutual support for the One Belt, One Road initiative was signed last November during President Andrzej Duda's visit to China.
While in Warsaw, Xi Jinping will meet also Prime Minister Beata Szydło and the Speakers of Poland’s lower and upper houses of parliament.
During the visit, agreements on joint projects in civil aviation, energy, finance and science are expected to be signed between the two countries.
Duda and his Chinese counterpart are also to symbolically open the China Railway Express, a new line from China to Europe.
During a visit to Beijing in April, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski discussed the possible involvement of Chinese contractors in the construction of roads, railways and airports in Poland.
"The opportunities for cooperation with China are endless," Waszczykowski said after his visit.
